Shiva Pourali

I am a dedicated Ph.D. student at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, focusing on addressing the menstrual needs and unmet requirements of young women residing in Australia. As a former midwife and faculty member, I have had the privilege of gaining valuable experience and knowledge in the field. I am proud to have obtained my master's degree in Midwifery from a prestigious university in Iran, solidifying my expertise in the subject matter. My research project encompasses a comprehensive national survey targeting women aged 16 to 25 years old.

Through my research, I aspire to bridge the gap in understanding and addressing the menstrual needs of young women in Australia, with a particular focus on the Afghan community. By amplifying their voices and shedding light on their experiences, I aim to make a positive impact on their well-being and improve the overall quality of life for this population.

What I bring to the CRE is a deep passion for midwifery and a commitment to advancing my professional and academic development. I am eager to explore practical research approaches that focus on improving women's quality of life, particularly in vulnerable populations such as refugees. I believe that the CRE can provide the necessary support and resources to help me achieve my goals and make a meaningful impact in this field. I am enthusiastic about collaborating with like-minded individuals and leveraging the institute's expertise to develop innovative solutions for the betterment of women's health and well-being.

I live and works on Wurrundjeri Country. Several things contribute to my strength and resilience. Firstly, I prioritize my physical well-being by regularly going to the gym and engaging in martial exercise. This helps me stay physically fit and boosts my energy levels. Writing is another outlet that brings me inner peace and helps me process my thoughts and emotions. Additionally, I find solace in dancing and listening to music, as it allows me to express myself and find joy in the rhythm. Cooking is a creative outlet that brings me comfort and allows me to nourish both my body and soul. Being in nature rejuvenates me and provides a sense of grounding and tranquility. Lastly, practicing meditation and exploring spirituality are essential aspects of my life. Focusing on my inner self and continuously striving for personal growth and improvement help me maintain resilience in the face of challenges.
