An exploration of the menstrual needs of young Afghan women of refugee background living in Melbourne: a qualitative study
The PhD project is focusing on the menstral needs of young women living in Australia. This involved a survey of women aged 16 to 25 years. In addition, I plan to explore the physical, psychological, social and medical needs of young Afghan women with heavy menstrual bleeding and pain. In particular, the study will focus on women who have no seen a primary care physician or specialist for their symptoms.
What is already known?

Young women from migrant and refugee backgrounds experience unique challenges such as lack of social support, displacement, recovery from trauma, discrimination, migration stress, and cultural integration issues, which can significantly impact their health and quality of life.
