Yordanos Gizachew Yeshitila
Yordanos Gizachew is currently pursuing a PhD in health economics at Deakin University. Her research focuses on evaluating the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of various maternity care models for women from refugee backgrounds in Australia. Yordanos is fortunate to receive guidance from Professor Lisa Gold, Associate Professor Elisha Riggs, and Dr Ha Le during her doctoral studies. She is particularly interested in the Stronger Futures Centre of Research Excellence (CREs), which aim to disrupt intergenerational trauma and cycles of family violence. She recognises that achieving this goal requires collective efforts and systemic changes at various levels. She is thrilled to be part of this exceptional group of researchers, scholars, and collaborators dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the refugee community.
Yordanos's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in Maternal and Reproductive Health. Coming from a low-income country, she has witnessed unfortunate tragedies and adverse events in the healthcare field. This firsthand experience has fuelled her deep interest in preventive healthcare interventions that can effectively address the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations. Yordanos's greatest motivation lies in translating and effectively communicating research findings into practical policies and interventions that can have a tangible impact on people's lives. Being part of the Stronger Futures CRE provides an exciting opportunity for her to work alongside a diverse group of experts. Collaborating with individuals possessing a wide range of knowledge and skills will significantly contribute to achieving her life passion. Together, the team can bridge the gap between research and action, ensuring the implementation of evidence-based strategies to improve the well-being of those in need.
Yordanos is passionate about translating and effectively communicating research findings into practical policies and interventions that can make a tangible difference in the lives of the refugee community. Her work involves evaluating the effectiveness and conducting economic evaluations of innovative interventions, enabling efficient allocation of resources.
Yordanos resides and works in Wurundjeri Country. Her overseas sister, friends, faith, and research keep her strong and resilient.
