Harriet MacMillan
Dr. Harriet MacMillan is a psychiatrist and pediatrician conducting research on the prevention of violence against children and women. She works at the Offord Centre for Child Studies at McMaster University, and holds the Chedoke Health Chair in Child Psychiatry. Harriet is a member of the McMaster Children's Hospital Child Advocacy and Assessment Program, which provides assessments to children and families and consultations to child protection agencies. Harriet is pleased to participate as an investigator of the Stronger Futures CRE.
Harriet is excited about the potential for the Stronger Futures CRE to determine new and effective ways of addressing the needs of children, youth and families who have experienced complex trauma.
She hopes that her work as a clinician-scientist in Canada in the family violence field will assist in bringing an international perspective to the CRE.
Harriet would like to acknowledge that where she works is located on the traditional territories of the Mississauga and Haudenosaunee nations, and within the lands protected by the "Dish with One Spoon" wampum agreement.
She attributes keeping strong to her time with family and friends and enjoyment of dogs, jigsaw puzzles and cycling.
