Anaita Kanga-Parabia

I am a Zoroastrian woman of Persian descent, born in Australia to parents born in India. I am also a genetic counsellor, PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne and Stronger Futures CRE Scholar. I am passionate about delivering medical genetic services in a way that is safe and inclusive for everyone. My current research focuses on culturally safe perinatal genetic screening for people of migrant backgrounds, using grounded theory methodology.

I hope that the work done by the Stronger Futures CRE amplifies the voices of those who are often missed, and that this ultimately moves us toward health services that are trauma-informed and culturally safe for everyone.

I bring my experience of public health research and counselling, as well as a love for communication and connection to the CRE.

My clinical experience as a genetic counsellor helps me to understand how CRE research might translate to the healthcare system.

I live and work on Wurundjeri Country. Spending time with my family and friends, crafting, and practicing mindfulness keep me strong and resilient.
